The Impact You’ll Be Contributing to Moloco:
We are seeking an outstanding privacy and regulatory attorney with at least 12 years of experience in advertising technology (AdTech), privacy and regulatory counseling to join our dynamic legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, we seek an experienced attorney who will help the legal department establish and execute strategies and processes to support Moloco’s scalable growth and build trust with customers, partners, end users and regulators. You’ll partner across legal, product, engineering, and operations to advise on privacy laws, policies, and implementation.
As the lead privacy and regulatory counsel, you will play a critical role in shaping Moloco’s growth and maturity as an AI-driven digital advertising technology company. You will work closely with the company’s CISO organization, as well as product, engineering and other technical teams, to evolve privacy and data security compliance at the company. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge legal issues at the intersection of machine learning, programmatic advertising, and global regulatory change.
The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and excited to partner with cross-functional teams to drive business growth while mitigating legal risk.
The candidate should be located near our Redwood City, California office and will be expected to be in the office on a hybrid schedule (e.g., several times per week or as needed)
The Opportunity:
- Lead legal support for and help evolve Moloco’s global privacy program. Provide advice and counsel to ensure Moloco meets its legal obligations and requirements under US, EU and other applicable legal frameworks and contractual commitments under DPIAs.
- Implement and maintain external and internal privacy- and legal-related policies, notices and processes in line with industry standard frameworks.
- Partner with and advise product, information security and technical teams to design and implement privacy controls as part of Moloco’s privacy program, which includes implementing privacy-by-design reviews.
- Advise on data governance strategies, including partnering with information security teams to develop appropriate policies, processes and frameworks.
- Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and training programs to operationalize privacy and data security compliance across teams.
- Build scalable, efficient and effective processes for legal review and negotiation of DPIAs.
- Manage regulatory engagement and external advocacy, including responding to inquiries, participating in consultations, and liaising with agencies on privacy and data governance compliance matters.
- Partner with and advise information security and technical teams to investigate potential privacy and security issues and ensure compliance with applicable law.
- Stay informed on the latest legal and regulatory developments, enforcement trends, and industry best practices that impact Moloco’s business, specifically emerging regulations in privacy and data protection impacting digital advertising.
- Be a lead legal subject matter expert for privacy and data protection, ensuring consistency in privacy counseling across the legal team.
- Evaluate and manage outside counsel engagement with respect to privacy and related regulatory matters.
- Actively participate with cross-functional teams to identify, evaluate, and mitigate complex issues and risks while balancing business objectives.
How Do I Know if the Role is Right For Me?
- 12+ years of legal experience advising clients as privacy, regulatory or product counsel, with a strong focus on privacy and data protection, and AdTech.
- Subject matter expertise in global privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CRPA, UK GDPR and others), cross-border data transfer rules, AdTech, and data protection is required.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with engineering and data science and research teams, translate complex technical concepts into practical legal guidance and build scalable frameworks.
- Experience in a fast-growing technology company is preferred.
- Both law firm and in-house experience are preferred.
- Expertise in global privacy laws and industry guidelines, especially those relevant to AdTech.
- Proven ability to counsel on complex, ambiguous, and emerging legal issues in a fast-paced tech environment.
- A pragmatic, business-minded approach to legal guidance, focusing on solutions rather than roadblocks.
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and risk assessment.
- Ability to provide concise, actionable legal guidance to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong work ethic and self-starter, with a growth-oriented mindset.
- Experience engaging with regulators, standards bodies, or contributing to policy development
- Prior leadership experience successfully scaling privacy, product and regulatory legal functions
- A strategic thinker who can operate at both macro policy and micro product levels.
- Ability to manage competing priorities effectively, with exceptional project management and organizational skills.

- Demonstrated ability to work in an ambiguous and rapidly changing regulatory landscape.
- Member in good standing of the California Bar or another bar association with the ability to register as in-house counsel in California.
