Privacy Counsel
The Privacy Counsel will play an essential role in shaping and scaling our global data privacy initiatives. You’ll be advising on complex privacy matters and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including product and commercial legal, information security, marketing, and other business teams. What You’ll Do:
- Provide practical and actionable privacy analysis and guidance to cross-functional stakeholders, including product and business teams, to ensure compliance with new and existing global privacy laws and regulations
- Support team members in negotiating, and directly negotiate as necessary, privacy and data-related terms in commercial agreements with customers and vendors
- Assist teams in achieving business goals by providing guidance on global compliance requirements for customers in regulated sectors such as financial services, healthcare, and government
- Work with information security, marketing, employment, procurement, and other teams to advise and support internal privacy compliance programs.
- Identify gaps and drive initiatives to improve Datadog’s contracts, templates, policies, and practices.
- Collaborate with information security teams to manage incident response and mature procedures
- Proactively monitor emerging and existing global data privacy and cybersecurity laws, and AI regulations, and conduct gap analyses and risk assessments to ensure Datadog's practices align with leading data governance frameworks.
Who You Are:
- Hold a JD from an accredited law school and are U.S.-qualified
- 5+ years of relevant experience, particularly experience with SaaS, technology product counseling and information security.
- Have a deep understanding of global privacy and cybersecurity laws (i.e., GDPR, U.S. state privacy laws, etc.), and a solid grasp of AI-related regulations
- Experience working with regulated industries such as government, financial services, and healthcare
- Possess with high integrity and excellent judgment, supported by well-articulated points of view
- Strong Organizational skills ed and strategic mindset, with the ability to work independently, escalate appropriately, and manage competing priorities with minimal guidance.
- Skilled at working cross-functionally with an ability to communicate effectively with both legal and non-legal professionals
- CIPP certified, or commit to obtaining certification within six months of hire date; CISM or other similar security certifications are highly desirable
