Our client, a global leader in data integrity and enterprise software, is seeking a Privacy Counsel on a contract basis to support its growing privacy and legal team. This junior to mid-level role is ideal for a proactive, solution-oriented attorney with a strong foundation in data privacy and protection, particularly in the context of B2B SaaS environments. The Privacy Counsel will work closely with the CPO, privacy team, and cross-functional stakeholders on a range of initiatives, from policy development and vendor compliance to data subject rights and legal support for product teams. This fully remote, U.S.-based position offers the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic global privacy program, with exposure to cutting-edge issues such as AdTech/MarTech, geolocation data, and data partnerships. This is an initial 12-month contract with the possibility of extension or conversion.
What you will do:
Privacy Governance:
- Develop, maintain, and update privacy policies, procedures, notices, authorization forms, and other documentation for the proper processing of personal data by business units, ensuring alignment with the implementation of personal data processing activities
- Support company's response to privacy-related events, inquiries, and investigations
- Support the intake, processing, and response of data subject questions and requests, including rights requests under GDPR, CCPA, and other regulations
- Design and deliver employee privacy training and awareness campaigns
- Collaborate with business units and functional areas to conduct privacy assessments and develop corrective action plans for identified privacy compliance issues
- Remain current on relevant privacy, data security, and consumer protection laws and regulations and industry standards and best practices
- Support other privacy program operations and compliance projects as needed
- Partner with commercial counsel and procurement to support commercial agreements and vendor management to include B2B and B2C data processing agreements, both customer and vendor-facing, including DPAs, privacy policies, TOS, and EULAs
- Assist with acquisition due diligence and integration activities
- Provide legal, privacy and data security guidance and counselling to multiple business and functional teams from the initial stages of product development to launch to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
- Other duties may be assigned
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and licensed in good standing to practice law
- Some data privacy, protection, and security experience, preferably in an in-house legal department of a technology company
- Experience advising on AdTech and/or MarTech privacy issues is preferred
- Knowledge of state, federal, and international privacy laws, regulations, and industry best practices
- Experience with privacy in Internet or high-tech companies providing solutions to enterprise customers
- Familiarity with data partnerships, data broker requirements, and geolocation data use
- Efficient project management combined with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work both independently and cross functionally
- Travel requirements: Occasional travel may be required for company meetings
