Our client, a global household name in the restaurant industry, is seeking a Privacy Counsel to support their privacy and AI compliance initiatives on a long-term contract basis. In this role, you will advise on global data protection laws, assist with privacy impact assessments and incident response matters, review and negotiate data protection agreements, and support the company’s broader privacy program goals across multiple business units. Candidates must be licensed attorneys with demonstrated privacy law experience, including familiarity with emerging AI and data protection regulations, and the ability to provide practical, business-oriented guidance in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be local to Ohio and comfortable going into the office 1–2 days per week for this hybrid opportunity.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Stay up to date and expertly advise on existing and emerging global data protection and AI laws, regulations, and best practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure privacy compliance in system and process implementations
- Partner with stakeholders to complete PIAs / DPIAs where required by applicable law
- Assist on the privacy incident response process
- Support third-party risk management initiatives as needed
- Help review, draft and update privacy policies, notices and procedures
- Conduct initial legal assessments for AI tools and where required by applicable law full AI risk assessments
- Review, draft and negotiation data protection agreements
- Contribute to finding new and creative ways to drive efficiency within the privacy team
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills and the ability to effectively influence and communicate with internal and external parties
- Proven ability to successfully multi-task, remain responsive and agile to changes in business priorities, and to deliver pragmatic, risk-based recommendations to the business, including proactively identifying recurring issues and developing recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to work and manage time spent on projects independently and with little supervision while performing duties
- Expert problem-solving skills with an ability to resolve legal and business issues effectively
- JD and be a member of at least one state bar in good standing
- Demonstrated experience as a privacy attorney
- Some in-house experience as an attorney
- Experience assessing AI tools for legal compliance
- Some experience building and supporting privacy program goals and operations
- Privacy certifications, such as CIPT, CIPM, or CIPP (US / C or E)
