Our client, a household name at the forefront of innovation and technology, is seeking an experienced Privacy Counsel to support its dynamic privacy and data protection team. In this role, you’ll advise on evolving global privacy laws - including GDPR and CCPA, drive privacy-by-design initiatives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed best practices across the organization. The ideal candidate brings significant experience in privacy law (ideally in-house), strong communication skills, and a pragmatic, business-focused mindset. This can be a fully remote role, however, ideally a candidate could be hybrid in DC, Detroit, or the Bay Area. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in a US jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance on global data privacy laws and regulations, including but not limited to GDPR, CCPA, and other emerging privacy legislation
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive privacy policies, procedures, and notices
- Conduct privacy impact assessments and risk analyses for new products, services, and business processes to identify and mitigate privacy risks
- Work closely with various teams, including legal, IT, security, product development, and human resources, to embed privacy-by-design principles and ensure compliance across the organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Experience working effectively in a cross-functional team environment
- High ethical standards and discretion in handling confidential information
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work
- In-depth knowledge of major global privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, TCPA, and CAN-SPAM
- Significant progressively responsible experience in privacy law, data protection, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience advising on global data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
- Proven track record in conducting privacy impact assessments, managing data governance initiatives, and developing privacy-by-design frameworks
- Prior experience within an in-house corporate legal department or a reputable law firm specializing in data privacy and technology law is highly preferred
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. state
- Certifications (Preferred): CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or other relevant privacy certifications from the IAPP are highly desirable
